The aims of this study were as follows: 1. To examine the understanding of
early math skills in children at the Ceria Sendangrejo KB, Sendangrejo Village,
Ngaringan District, Grobogan Regency; 2. To describe the implementation of the
snake and ladder game method in improving early math skills in children at the
Ceria Sendangrejo KB, Sendangrejo Village, Ngaringan District, Grobogan
Regency; and 3. To find out changes in children's behavior in implementing the
snake and ladder method in the Ceria Sendangrejo KB Sendangrejo Village,
Ngaringan District, Grobogan Regency.
This type of research is classroom action research which consists of two
cycles carried out in 3 meetings, the research process includes planning,
implementing, observing, and reflecting. The subjects in this study were all
students of Kb Ceria Sendangrejo, Sendangrejo Village, Ngaringan District,
Grobogan Regency. The method used in this research is observation and
documentation.
The results showed that the implementation of the snakes and ladders
game method succeeded in increasing the initial math skills of children in the
Ceria Sendangrejo KB, Sendangrejo Village, Ngaringan District, Grobogan
Regency. This is evidenced by an increase in early math skills in children who
reach the completion criteria, namely BSH (Developing According to
Expectations) and BSB (Developing Very Well) in the Pre-Cycle of 4 children or
by 20%, in Cycle I Meeting 1st of 8 children or by 40%, in Cycle I of the 2nd
Meeting there were 11 children or by 55%, in Cycle II of the 1st Meeting there
were 14 children or by 70%, and in Cycle II of the 2nd Meeting there were 17
children or by 85%. Changes in children's behavior in the implementation of the
snake and ladder method in the Ceria Sendangrejo KB Sendangrejo Village,
Ngaringan District, Grobogan Regency are very significant. Previously, some of
the children in the Ceria Sendangrejo KB Sendangrejo Village, Ngaringan
District, Grobogan Regency were not optimal in understanding numbers as a
basis for their initial mathematical abilities. After the implementation of the
snakes and ladders game method in the Ceria Sendangrejo KB Sendangrejo
Village, it appears that they are able to say the symbol numbers 1-10, do simple
additions, match the number symbols with the numbers on the snakes and ladders
paper, count while running the pawns, and say the addition symbol (+) and
subtraction (-).
