Early childhood is referred to as the golden age, growth and development of
physical-motor, social-emotional, cognitive, religious and moral values, language
occurs so rapidly, that's why proper stimulation is needed and given from an early
age. These aspects need to be developed optimally as the basis for child
development at later stages. Children's cognitive development develops gradually
according to the age they have reached. In general, children's cognitive
development has the same phases (stages), namely sensory-motor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational stages. Children aged
5-6 years are in the pre-operational phase, namely children are given concrete
experiences that are felt directly by children. Children cannot accept
material/concepts that are memorized, because children become burdened, bored
and their verbalism is not sufficiently capable.
The aims of this study were as follows: (1) To describe the increase in the
ability to recognize numbers 1-20 through the media of a number wheel in
children aged 5-6 years at Kindergarten Dharma Wanita 2 Boloh. (2) To find out
how much the ability to recognize numbers 1-20 has increased through the
number wheel media for children aged 5-6 years at Kindergarten Dharma Wanita
2 Boloh. (3) To find out the changes in behavior that appear after using the
number wheel as a medium in increasing the recognition of numbers 1-20 in
children aged 5-6 years at Kindergarten Dharma Wanita 2 Boloh.
This research is a classroom action research (CAR) with a quantitative
descriptive method using the percentage formula. The sample of this study were
students at Kindergarten Dharma Wanita 2 Boloh 2 aged 5-6 years with a total of
20 children consisting of 10 boys and 10 girls. This study uses a success indicator
of 80%.
The results of this study are that there was a significant increase in the
percentage of the ability to recognize numbers 1-20 with the number wheel media
as evidenced from during the pre-cycle the ability to recognize numbers 1-20
obtained BSB and BSH values of 30%, then increased in cycle I by 50 % and cycle
II of 85% and this shows an increase in the ability to recognize numbers 1-20 in
Kindergarten Dharma Wanita 2 Boloh.
